8/6/2012 - Are you feeling patriotic?

What a busy week it's been...Here at Spoiler Towers we are feeling very proud to be British, having spent the last seven days embroiled in watching the Queen's Jubilee celebration. And what a celebration it was - boat trips down the Thames, Madness on the Palace roof, and Prince Charles calling the Queen 'Mummy' in front of the nation - the whole thing was terribly endearing.

And then of course we've had the Olympic torch travelling around the country. 8000 torches, 8000 people running 300 metres, thousands of Brits lining the streets waving flags. It does make you feel quite patriotic. I've become somewhat obsessed with knowing exactly where the Olympic torch is and when - as I write it's working its way from Stranraer to Glasgow. My favourite bit so far was watching Patrick Kielty run through Dundrum in Northern Ireland - he's my comedy hero.

So with all this excitement going on, we must wonder if life has been just as busy in the automotive industry.

Top of the news have been some happy reports from the new car market, which is doing well. Having risen by 7.9% during May, this sector is seeing its strongest rate of growth since the scrappage-induced rise in 2010.

My favourite story of the week though is the announcement that the UK automotive industry is taking part in the Government's initiative to encourage young people to consider a career in engineering.

Around 30 UK automotive sites will take part in the 'See Inside Manufacturing' initiative, aiming to challenge perceptions that the UK has an outdated manufacturing sector. What a fantastic idea - let's hope we can inspire the next generation of budding engineers.

Have a great weekend.
